Canopy Farms is a rooftop aquaponics greenhouse in partnership with Chef Cara Stadler and her mother and co-owner Cecile. They have been dreaming of this project since they started their first restaurant in 2012, and Canopy Farms now provides produce and fish for all their restaurants. We are a small team of 2-3 people at the farm producing a lot of greens!

Aquaponics is the combination of growing fish and plants on a loop–the fish waste provides nutrients for the plants, and the plants filter the water for the fish. Our job is to create the right environment for the naturally-occurring bacteria that convert fish waste into usable nutrients, so our system stays happy and productive. Because we rely on balance of these natural systems, we can’t use chemically-derived additives like pesticides or fertilizers, not even soap! Our produce is sustainably grown, and you can eat our fish knowing they are 100% fresh and safe for consumption. 

We have many ways to get involved, so stop by our table at the Winter Farmer's Market to say hi! We'll have more information about what our products are like, how to sign up for a tour of our greenhouse if interested, and crisp veggies and fresh fish for purchase every week, even in the dead of winter.
